Healthy Nice Cream (Print Version)

A creamy, refreshing frozen dessert made from frozen bananas. Naturally sweetened, dairy-free, and completely customizable.

# What You'll Need:

→ Base

01 - 4 large ripe bananas, peeled, sliced and frozen

→ Optional Flavor Additions

02 - 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder (for chocolate variation)
03 - 1/2 cup frozen berries (for berry variation)
04 - 2 tablespoons peanut butter or almond butter (for nutty variation)
05 - 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
06 - Pinch of salt

→ Optional Toppings

07 - Fresh fruit such as berries or sliced bananas
08 - Chopped nuts or seeds
09 - Dark chocolate shavings
10 - Coconut flakes

# How to Make It:

01 - Place the frozen banana slices into a high-powered food processor or blender.
02 - Blend until the bananas break down into small pieces, then continue processing until a smooth, creamy mixture forms. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed to ensure even blending.
03 - Add any desired flavor additions such as cocoa powder, frozen berries, nut butter, vanilla extract, or salt. Blend again until all ingredients are fully incorporated and the mixture is uniform.
04 - Serve immediately for a soft-serve consistency, or transfer the mixture to a freezer-safe container and freeze for 1 to 2 hours for a firmer, scoopable texture.
05 - Top with your choice of fresh fruit, chopped nuts, dark chocolate shavings, or coconut flakes before serving.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • It tastes genuinely indulgent but its literally just fruit, which feels like getting away with something.
  • You can twist the flavor a dozen different ways depending on your mood and what is lurking in your freezer.
02 -
  • Blending too long in a warm kitchen can make the mixture melt and get runny, so work quickly once it reaches that creamy stage.
  • If your blender is struggling, let the bananas sit at room temperature for two or three minutes rather than adding liquid, which waters down the texture.
03 -
  • Freeze your banana slices on parchment paper so they release easily and do not become a fused block you have to chisel apart.
  • If you want a firmer texture for scooping, freeze the finished nice cream in individual portions so you do not have to soften the whole batch at once.
